I make my first entry as a way of orienting myself to the day. I have to recognize what day and month and year it is. and who is president. (The first question one is asked is who is pres). It is Sunday. I am to spend the aft with Martha. Dogs get a walk only.
I walk the dogs along the sidewalk past the next door apartment bldg. Lots of dogs there; so my dogs do their business.
I took a nap and just woke when Martha arrived. Jeff was busy smoking evrything: chicken wings, brisket and turkey. I brot home a lot of turkey. Yummy. Delish.
I took another nap while the others were watching a movie. Then we had to watch the end of the NBA game which went into overtime. Josh drove me home. We picked up Michelle and she drove us home.
Lady Chica's Tale
Mom was gone all day. When she came home I smelled Rocky. So I know where she's been all day. Blitzen and I slept.
Blitzen's Tale
Yeah, we slept all day.
BOOK REVIEW
Robert Crais, *Chasing Darkness*
Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. The usual plot line. Elvis is trying to prove somebody innocent of murder. Three years ago Elvis furnished evidence proving Lionel Byrd was innocent. Now new evidence at the scene of his suicide seems to show that Byrd killed seven women. Elvis does not believe it and is on the case.

Anniversary of D Day.
All the news is full of memories. I will add mine. I remember D Day. I was a coed at Michigan State College. ON campus were 3000 soldiers and 3000 coeds. Early in the spring I had stood at the window of my chem lab and watched the soldiers marching off to DDay. They marched down Farm Lane to the railroad station.
Soldiers had been in ASTP training as engineers. I had shared the drafting room with many on
Sat when we were finishing our drawings. Also pre pre flight guys. I had been dating one of them and he had gone off to flight school. I was dating an infantry man and he had gone off to storm Okinawa.
We all knew the guys were going to invade Europe. And they were the raw material who would storm the beach. the disposables All the guys expected to die. Writing this is the first time I have realized how much stress we were all under. Everybody knew the casualities would be high wherever the troops landed.
On D Day all classes were canceled and we went to church to pray.
Midnight. I may never get to bed. I have a volume with three Harry Bosch novels, the first three which are the back story.
10 AM Up and at em. I got to bed at 2. So I have had my quota of sleep. No dog park today. They are going to get walks. They just lie around the dog park on the tables. I am going to sew like mad. Chapters of my book for reward.
When we left the outside sign at the church read 87 degrees. As we were on our return journey Blitzen squirmed out of his harness and took off across the street and across the field. I was concerned that he would get hit by a car. But... he beat Chica and me back to the compound. he whizzed past as we entered the gate. he ran around and then let me ctch him by pretending to be so engrossed in something he didn't see me coming. it is good that he got some exercise.
Came home, pinned some, I am pinning the next strip on blocks. Two more finished, 43 to go. One thing that takes time is I have to scrounge around to find the next strip.
Took a nap. I wish NPR had some decent programs on Sat.
Took another nap. And so it goes.
Lady Chica's Tale
Mom said we are not going to the park today cuz all we do is lie around. I dont care really.
Blitzen's Tale
Well, I got a run in. I think I am getting older. I dont feel so much like running. I got out of that ol harness and took off.
BOOK REVIEW
Michael Connelly, *Brass Vercict*
Brass verdict is police slang for when a bad guy gets killed. Harry Bosch series with Michael Haller as defense lawyer. Lawyer is murdered and Haller inherits his case load. This book started slow and then I couldn't put it down.

I guess Blitz got tired of getting up and down all night. He slept in his den under the bed. The sun is shining and I m off to tai chi and Food Bank.
Good stuff in the food bank today. Four students in tai chi this morning. We dont do it very rigourously.
Came home and took a nap. Long nap. Woke up and vacuumed living room. What the hay!!!
At five we made a library run and then off to dog park. I kept laughing and laughing at the dogs. Did not get much reading done.
Lady Chica is so aware of everything I do. This has to do with a herding dog. They have to anticipate where the sheep or cattle are going next and get ahead of the herd.
8 PM and no Bill Moyers. Pledge drive and special musical program.
Lady Chica's Tale
Not much doing in the dog park. I lay on the table most of the time. I like to be outdoors. When the weather is cool Mom leaves the front door open and I smell under the screen door.
Blitzen's Tale
Mom put me on Timeout twice for humping little pug dogs. Finally we were all playing and she left me alone. A mini Chinese hairless was humping everybody. He tried humping me.
BOOK REVIEW
Henning Mankell, *Before the Frost*
Written in Swedish, translated into English. New series featuring Linda Wallander, daughter of Kurt. Linda is joining the police. Police procedural. Somebody is burning wild swans, a calf, and pets in a pet store. Cathedrals are blown up.

9 AM and the lawn mower cometh. need my caffeine. Off to walk dogs locally. My morning exercise.
10:24 AM. Walking was difficult with lawn mowers all over the place. Blitzen gets so mad he turns and chews on the leash. For breakfast I had some little grain in dots. It may be couscous. Meeting Ruth at 2. Otherwise sewing.
Ruth and I had fun chatting. We email daily. So we didn't have much to catch up on.
4:21 PM Think I will take a nap.
Never did get to sleep. Went to dog park at seven when it is cool. Lady Chica is so clever. She does not like anybody to beat her in racing. So if the other dog is getting ahead of her, she veers off and goes plop in the pool. Sometimes she turns and goes in the other direction. She reminds me of Josh when he was three or four and used to get mad when Belle, the border collie, beat him in a race.
Lady Chica's Tale
Mom has begun taking us for a walk early in the morning. Blitzen is such a pest. When we hear or see a lawn mower he wants to take off. He turns around and bites the leash. What a pest!!!
Blitzen's Tale
I have been limping around all day. I think I twisted my ankle in that cage Mom makes us ride in. She is so controlling. Wont let me chase those pesky lawn mowers.
BOOK REVIEW
Richard North Patterson, *Balance of Power*
I only read half of this book before returning it to library. The plot deals with passing gun legislation. I lost track of who is who. Did the good guy's friend betray him or was that the bad guy? These guys are all senators. The first lady's mother and sis were gunned down by ex.
I am neutral on the gun issue. I dont think new legislation will help much and I think members of NRA are paranoid.
As recession deepens I see more random shootings. I was interested to find that as soon as Obama was elected, abortion clinics increased security.

drank a cup of coffee and set forth with dogs --- for my benefit --- ten minutes out and fifteen minutes getting back. I am pouring sweat.
Now to drive over to Martha's to pick up leftovers.
I have food forever. Four pork chops, some other kind of meat, dishes of rice. I ate some chicken vegie soup for lunch. Delish. Jeff is a super cook.
Took a nap. I have been wringing wet with sweat all day.
Lady Chica's Tale
We had a thunder storm in the night. I snuggled up next to Mom. She was muttering about counting something about lightning and then thunder. I dont know what she was talking about but it felt snuggy. And old blitzen just slept through it all. He didn't even wake up.
Blitzen's Tale
Wednesday night and over to old Pup's.
PPQS. Lea always gives me dinner. Then she sewed on a quilt and I did hand work on yokes for my shirts. I really dont know what happens in the back yard. John gives them each a treat. Blitzen goes immediately and buries his.
I am so sleepy. Forgot to take Claritin and had to take benedryl. I am allergic to Amelia.
BOOK REVIEW
Michael Connelly, *Angels Flight*
Hieronymous Bosch police procedural. Angels Flight is a tram car in downtown LA. It figures in the story bc it is the site of a fatal shooting. The vic is a black lawyer who is famous for suing the LAPD. Everybody thinks the shooter is a cop. Well, read the book.

Baptist Center. Not yet. 8:20 AM We started out for morning walk and the rain came down. Even the dogs wanted to come inside. I hate to drive in the rain.
I was caught in traffic and ten minutes late. two accidents had occurred between my house and the church. We were busy all morning, 18 families served with groceries. I realized it was the first week of the month.
Came home and as usual took a nap. Afraid of coming rain, we went to dog park at 5:30 PM. It was pleasant there, breeze blowing, sun obscured. Yes, Martha, I walked the perimeter. of the small dog park.
Lady Chica's Tale
As usual, the first thing I did was plunge into the pool. Yeah howdy. We did a little running. Mostly I sat on the table. Mom walked around but I just stayed on the table.
Blitzen's Tale
Lots of petting today. Two little kids petted and petted. We did get some busters running. It is nice to get outdoors.
Came home and took a short power nap. Staff at Center was sleepy this morning. the weather seems to be heavy.
BOOK REVIEW
Robert Crais, *L.A. Requiem*
Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. Does one call this a police procedural? It's like Hercule Poirot, a PI and the police. A serial killer kills an old girl friend of Joe Pike. They hunt down the killer. In the process both Elvis and Joe get shot badly. We are not sure Joe Pike survives.

Disappointed not to see Wallander last night. A pledge drive was on and people were voting for British comedy fall programs.
Meeting Judy at Wendy's for our traditional chat. Dogs still asleep, not pestering for food nor walk. Saturday tired them out.
Reader asked who instructed me to walk. Why, Martha, of course. Flex your foot!!!
Judy says she is suffering "post partum depression". She was so excited when Obama won and now life just goes on. On the other hand, I am excited. I think we are at a turning point as revolutionary as the Protestant Reformation. I cant see ahead but I can see the boiling.
Came home and could not get on Juno. Took a long nap. I was having a heavy dream where fishtracks was trying to sell me something and I wasn't buying.
Going to dog park at seven. Too hot.
Dog Park was cool. Clouds were coming in. Blitzen didn't run at all and Lady Chica only did a little. Are they getting old? Is it too hot? They got the big dogs running.
Came home. I have been sitting around reading. The Warning Siren sounded but there is nothing on tv or on the internet about a storm.
Lady Chica's Tale
My tummy has been sensitive today. I didn't eat anything until supper and then only part. Mom is such a worry wart. It is a wonder she did not have me at Dr. Treybig's before noon when I missed breakfast.
Blitzen's tale
I got extra food today. I sneaked in and finished off Chica's breakfast and supper. I got those big busters going at the park. Didn't feel it necessary to run with them. A whole pack was running.
BOOK REVIEW
David Cole, *Stalking Moon*
I expected an Indian story. Well, Laura Wilson is half Hopi, but she has long since left the rez. She is a hacker. She traces people by using the internet. Mostly she tracks embezzled money going offshore. She is hired by two different clients to track money. It turns out to be money gotten by smuggling women into the US. Women from eastern Europe get to Mexico, only to find themselves without papers. They have to pay off their passage by becoming prostitutes. At the end of the book all the bad guys are dead. Warning to people who dont like violence.
