Baptist Center. 9:20 andhere comes my third customer for groceries. Few customers today, only six. It was a slow day all around. No more adult clothing for the summer. Center is closed next week.

Came home and took a nap. Then off to the dog park. The sky was overcast and the air was heavy enuf to drink but it was not uncomfortable. Only three or four big dogs and they wouldn't run. Blitzen and Lady Chica finally ran with bicycles on the road. They got tired out, thank goodness.

Not much today.

Lady Chica's Tale
Well, those dogs wouldn't run. We barked and barked and barked. Mom took me thru the agility course. I felt cooperative; so I complied. I like to lie on the desk under the window and look out. Mom wont open the door anymore. Says the outdoors is too hot.

Blitzen's Tale
I really trash talked that big bruiser of a boxer or maybe a pit bull. But he wouldn't run. None of those bruisers would run. Got tired out chasing bicycles.

I woke at 11:10 --- after I was supposed to meet Judy at Wendy's. I called Juday and asked her to wait 15 more minutes. Actually it was 20 before I got there. We had our usual chat. She thinks I need to write the story of my life. Well, it might be a good exercise.

Then I went to the library to peruse two new reference books, lists of mysteries and of spy stories. Also I found out where the new Sam Moon store is located. (Sam Moon sells jewelry and accessories for nothing.)

Came home and decided to take dogs to park. It is only 88 degrees. At 3:15 PM we were the onliest dogs there. A little later people began to come. There were two young males Blitzen was determined to dominate. So we came home -- but it had been an hour. I need a nap but Marilyn is sorting clothes and I will take her giveaways to Baptist Center.

We spent an hour sorting clothes and only half done. I have three big bags for me and one for Baptist Center. I may give some of the three bags to Baptist Center. Marilyn has the same problem I do. We needed clothes in the past and now we go nowhere.

I finally got a nap for today. 8:30 PM Ready for another read.

BOOK REVIEW
John Sandford, *Rules of Prey*
I think this is the first Lucas Davenport police procedural, Minneapolis PD. Lucas is a hard boiled cop. He has at least once been suspended for the use of excessive force. He has shot five people in the line of duty. He is a womanizer. He lies to reporters. He mostly works vice and drugs. He is mean to bad guys. The story is interesting. Serial killer. We know who he is from the beginning. Published in 1989. You know it is an old book when the characters have to use public pay phones.

The reference book at the library puts Davenport in a subgenre of "lonely police", halfway between PI and police procedural.

I suddenly woke -- surprised to find myself alone. I dreamed I had a house full of people. I was dreaming about Libby (my deceased daughter) who was 26 in the dream. Martha was 13.

Woke at 7:15 AM. Dressing for church. I will even make Sunday School. Gotta run. Temp is now 84. It is supposed to be cooler today, in the nineties.

99 degrees is cooler??? Driving home from church was like being in an oven. I thoroly enjoyed our discussion in Sunday School. Our class has two or three retired ministers in it who bring a different perspective. Pastor Jorene delivered the sermon. Mark F was there at lunch.

Of course I came home and took a nap. I just rested all afternoon. we went to dog park at 7. Met Judy, Ken and Szabo. This time the big dogs cooperated and they all ran until they were exhausted. The dogs have flaked out.

Lady Chica's Tale
Buddy was there and we ran and ran and ran. Finally I rested for a while. Mom finally dragged us home.

Blitzen's Tale
We got those big bruisers running today. They were running all over each other. We had a great time. Buddy was therre. He likes Lady Chica.

I found it a little scary that the scarecrow tracks a woman thru her blogs.

Martha's Birthday. She is in Carbondale visiting her father and Helen. She and I have exchanged greetings.

9 AM. I was dreaming that I was teaching in a woman's college in the south and the other faculty were teasing me about being a Yankee. Then my own little southern belle hopped into bed to wake me up. Temp is already 86 degrees. I am not going outside until evening. Except maybe to the farmers mkt. I want to encourage them. I still have one tomato left. I gave LC a piece. She loves it. I know she is the culprit who stole one from the grocery basket. She was disappointed when all she got for breakfast was some crumby old dog food.

Finally opened my email card from Leslie. I think it must have been customized bc the message read: I know it's your birthday bc you have that frantic "Let me at the frosting" look.
At Lambert's my dessert was served with a candle.

Farmer's Mkt is growing; six vendors today. At 4 PM two were packing up, Sold Out. I guess people want a farmer's mkt. peaches, tomatoes, potatoes, misc little ones, tamales. One vendor is selling ground coffee.
Next week I need to start earlier. I took out time for a nap.

Dog park at 7 PM. I pulled in just as Szabo's foks pulled in. Judy and I talked. Judy is impressed that I guessed that Sanford (SC gov) went to Argentina to see a woman.

11 PM I took Tylenol PM. Ready to sleep. I will be groggy tomorrow.

Lady Chica's Tale
We got some of those big dogs running tonight. I finally had enuf. Szabo was there and Mom sat around talking with Judy and Ken. I almost went to sleep in the shower.

Blitzen's Tale
We finally got some of those big bruisers moving. Plenty hot today. We stayed inside until late.

BOOK REVIEW
Michael Connelly, *overlook*
Harry Bosch police procedural. A man is found at the overlook shot twice thru the head. He is a physician and had access to nuclear material which has been stolen. His wife was threatened. Bosch of course clashes with the FBI, one of whom is his old girl friend, Rachel Walling. Look for her in *Scarecrow*.

Hugs, Dr. Liz
I just read a book where the serial killer tracks a woman down by reading her blog.

Woke up at 8 AM. Yeah. Gotta go to tai chi. Temp is 88 already.

Did tai chi, went Krogering, made a library run, took the dogs for a brief walk, paid my rent. Now for a nap. Temp is 97. At 2 PM.

Slept for three hours. Heat and ozone is tiring me out. We went to dog park at seven, when the park was actually pleasant. As time went on, more and more people arrived. A Jack Russell in the Big dog park wanted to race with Lady Chica but she declined. The dogs spent most of the hour lying in the shade.

Lady Chica's Tale
We went to the park after the day cooled off. Mostly we just lay around in the grass. I saw a little dog I tried to play with but she ran off.

Blitzen's Tale
Not much going on. A little terrier wanted to race but we didn't think that was big enough. Mostly we lay around on the ground. I did get snarly with a little dog who kept sniffing me. I growled at him but he didn't hear. Mom says I dont growl loud enuf.

BOOK REVIEW
W.E.B. Griffin, *Semper Fi*
This is the first book of The Corps series, which follows Killer McCoy and Pick Pickering from 1941 thru the Korean Police Action. We pick up Ken McCoy in Shanghai where he is what is known as a China Marine. He gets in a brawl with four Italians and kills two of them. Because he is a linguist, fluent in Chinese and Japanese he is shipped back to US to Army Intelligence. (Some people are gifted. I had a friend who spoke 12 languages.) sent to Officers Training School he meets Pick Pickering who becomes a fly boy. The book covers the year 1941 when many people know the war is coming, ending with Pearl Harbor. And we dont know what happened to Pick's fa and mo who were flying to Hawaii.
Having just finished the last two books in the series I know what happens to Killer and Pick.

Lady Chica is so cute. Blitzen was stomping around the kitchen, grumbling, "This is my territory. I get the food here. This is my territory." Lady Chica just yawned in his face. Then she kissed him and scampered off.

Lea: My neighbors son and family have gone on Weight Watchers. Tonight my neighbor shared a piece of cake that I think was made with apple sauce. Hurrah!

9:30 AM Thursday. I just hate Thursday morning when the lawnmowers come. The dogs get all excited. But at least they got some exercise. We are going to the dog park this evening. We have a heat advisory, whatever that means. I am only going to take the dogs on an "after o" walk.

Well, Blitzen went beserk hearing the lawn mower. he turns around and bites the leash. I gave up and came home. Noon. Temp is 93 and real feel is 104. AC cant get the house comfortable.
I just read an article about how Broadway Baptist has been kicked out of the Southern Baptist Convention. The big problem is that our choir director is on the faculty of Southwestern Seminary and has to be in Southern Baptist to keep job. We'll see. Our main commitment has been to Cooperative Fellowship of Baptists.

I took a nap. At 3:15 PM Ruth's thermometer read 106. I cant get accuweather.com to open.

We went to dog park at 7 PM. Rather pleasant. When the sun had dipped behind the trees, the dogs finally got the big dogs running. I am glad they had some exercise.

Lady Chica's Tale
Those horrible machines were running this morning. Then we slept all afternoon. Finally got some big dogs running tonight.

Blitzen's Tale
Had a hard time getting those big bruisers going tonight. Finally they did. Lady Chica is pretty good at getting them worked up. She finally started barking.

BOOK REVIEW
W.E.B. Griffin, *Retreat, Hell!*
Corps series, about Marine Corps. This book covers the last months of 1950 when the Chinese entered the Korean War and the US made the longest retreat in American history. Readers follow the exploits of the CIA. Or maybe Special Ops. Killer McCoy goes behind the lines and tells CIA that Chinese are infiltrating North Korea. (An afterword explains how the Chinese did it. They came in at night and hid during the day. )
McArthur does not believe the Chinese will enter the war.

Up at 8 AM and off to the dog park. The man came by picking up trash and dogs woke me. I found some weird ointment for stiffness and pain. It seems to be working, altho it may not be the variable.

We got to the park and guess who were there? the motorsickle cops. Blitzen dug under the fence and almost out three times. I think his harness caught on the fence and he had to back out.
Why is my dog the only one who wants out?
The dogs did get some exercise, chasing the cycles. I thot Blitzen would sleep all afternoon but he just seems wired. I did get a nap.
2 PM temp is 99 degrees and real feel 104. It is so hot. I have to change clothes from skin out every time I go outdoors. or rather come inside from outdoors. bc I am soaked with sweat.

I have been napping off and on all day. Finally I realized that we have a "red" ozone alert. That may be making me tired.

Lady Chica's Tale
When we got to the park, the parking lot was full of motorcycles and I had fun chasing back and forth. I got a big dog to chase for a few minutes. Came home and flaked out.

Blitzen's Tale
I almost made it out of that park three times. My harness got caught on the fence. The parking lot was full of motorcycles. Mom kept putting me on time out. She is so something or other. This is a family journall and can't say it.

BOOK REVEIW
W.E.B. Griffin, *The Saboteurs*
Series on OSS in WWII. The American gets with the mafia to infiltrate Sicily to prepare for that invasion in 1943. Many of the mafia are native Sicilians and they have been hunted by Mussolini in Sicily.
Meanwhile four Nazis infiltrate from a submarine off the coast of Florida. They wander around the US setting off explosions to create chaos.

Griffin's books are fantasy, in a way. Compare them with Norman Mailer's *The Naked and the Dead* which deals with same subject. Griffin's books are about the glory of war, not the horror. And none of Griffin's heroes has PTSD. Meanwhile I am reading two reality books, one about rescuing prisoners in the Phillipines and another about the Battle of the Bulge in Europe.

I may have mispelled the name of the author of the Prey Series. Correct spelling is John Sandford.

Baptist Center. We have provided groceries for nine families by 9:45 AM. Seven people were lined up at the beginning. I have been busy. Altogether we served 17 families. Sack lunches were slow. Quiet day.

Came home and took dogs for "after o" walk. Took a nap. Temp is 99 degrees. We will go to park at 6:30.

First I took a nap. Then I finished stitching and then pressed my 45 blocks. I have five red & black done which is one row of a lap quilt. Most of the others are within a strip of being finished (12" x 12"). So I feel a sense of achievement for today.

Then we went over to the dog park and it was beastly hot. Not too, too bad in the shade. Judy and ken with Szabo arrived and we had a great chat. As usual. Came home. Sat around reading this evening. almost forgot to send this out. Now almost midnight.

Lady Chica's Tale
There was a big dog. Marsie called him a pony. Finally got him running. A few trips back and forth are enuf in this heat. The first thing I do when we get to the park is jump in the wading pool. When we got home, I just lay down eating, reclining like a Roman Empress.

Blitzen's Tale
Old Szabo came to the park this evening. We dont mess in each other's territory. I really trash talked a big old bruiser across the fence. Mostly we lay around in the shade.

BOOK REVIEW
John Sandford, *Invisible Prey*
Lucas Davenport, police procedural series. Davenport lives in St. Paul (or minnneapolis), Minnesota. He is the head of a special crime unit, BCA. Called in on homicides. This is the seventeenth (I think) book in the series. A rich old lady is found bludgeoned to death and some antiques stolen. Davenport links the death to others in the state. The victims are all connected by an interest in quilts.
I enjoy Sandford's books. I read one on Sunday and one on Monday.
Today I have not spent time reading. I have pressed my 45 quilt blocks.

I am 83 years old today.
I slept in and woke at ten to eleven. Wow. I threw on some clothes and made it to Wendy's by ten after. Judy treated me to a big frosty-cino. We had our usual chat.
The dogs needed to go out. So we braved the heat. It was 97 degrees. A slight breeze kept us alive.
now 3:47 PM. I may take a shower and a nap. The heat does me in.

Took a nap. Got up and ate left over mooshi pork. Took another nap.

Lady Chica's Tale
Mom has spent the day sleeping altho we did get to the dog park. The mower was in the Big Dog park and all the big dogs were on our side. I kept racing a black lab to the pool.

Blitzen's Tale
All the big bruisers were on our side today. Mostly they were labs who never do anything much. It was hot.

BOOK REVIEW
John Sanders, *heat Lightning*
New series with Virgil Flowers. Police procedural. Bodies keep turning up at Vietnam Memorials, each body with a lemon stuck in their mouth. Virgil is told that lemon in the mouth is a Vietnamese custom for executions. I kept suspecting the killer and I was half right.

Saturday evening. Really nice. We went to Lambert's, which is a steak house. The waiters are dressed like cowboys and saddles are hanging from the ceiling. We had wild boar short ribs for an appetizer. I had wild salmon and the others had beef of some kind. Live music was fifties jazz. All in all I felt most sophisticated.

One of my dogs ate a tomato. I left my grocery bag from farmers mkt sitting on the floor, thinking no harm. When i returned, I found a weird tomato core on the floor. One of my tomatoes was gone.

Sunday morning. I didn't touch my computer but it was 11 before we got to dog park. Not too bad altho dogs just lay around on the table. I talked with history prof and the corgi's mom. It was funny. Three corgies ganged up and herded a little puppy around. kelly was there, too. I need to take a nap before Martha gets here to take me out to dinner.

I woke at four just as Martha arrived. Took my clothes with me to get dressed. We had a pleasant evening at B.F. Chang's where Josh works as a back waiter. He delivers food. I have had two free desserts bc it is my birthday.

Lady Chica's Tale
We were dragged out to the dog park before breakfast. I mostly lay around on the table. Too humid to go racing. Mom was gone all evening. we slept.

Blitzen's Tale
Yeah, it was a lazy day. I did retreive one ball this morning at the park. The ball was pink.

BOOK REVIEW

They go on a honeymoon to the islands where they are capture by pirates. Meanwhile the bank is robbed while the wedding is going on and everybody is attending the wedding.

Awoke about eight and everthing was so peaceful. So quiet. No barks. No nothing. Got up. While reading emails my sister called, testing her Skype. They had problems last night with their Skype. They talk to their son in Australia regularly.
The live blogs from the riots in Iran remind me of Libby in the student riots at SIU. Libby was downtown with the riots. Every few minutes she found a pay phone and called to give us a report.

The birds are delivering fertilizer directly to my plants.

The dog park was comfortable this morning. High eighties but with a breeZe. The dogs didn't run much but I got to talk to people: Ray, Cassie's mom (Cassie is a cow dog), and the ancient history prof. Broadway Baptist made the papers again. We are about to be kicked out of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Each Baptist Church is independent. They join together in larger units called conventions. We also belong to Cooperative Fellowship of Baptists. Churches who departed from Southern Baptists. We remain in Southern Fellowship in order to keep our organist and choir director in their jobs at Southwestern Seminary.

White blossoms drift across my window like snow. made it to the farmers mkt, two blocks away. Blitzen ran that far one day when he got away. Four vendors, each under a shade. I bought a little basket that had one tomato, one squash, one zuchini, one tomato, 3 potatoes. Just what I wanted. And then more tomatoes. There was a tamale vendor, too. I came home drenched in sweat. Temp only 91 degrees.

Now for a shower and dress for the evening. Jeff and Martha are taking me to Lambert's, a steak house with live music. Look it up on the internet. So I am going to sign off for today.

Lady Chica's Tale
Too lazy to run much this morning. The park was full of puppies. Mom laughs a lot at the puppies.

Blitzen's Tale
It's good to get outdoors but we didn't run much. It's not running weather.

I have been reading a book about the Battle of the Bulge. This is the first I have ever seen reference to what happened to ASTP soldiers after leaving college campus. The commander of the infantry announced their arrival by calling them the cream of the crop, cream that had gone sour. The author of the book talks bout the need for physical fitness. At Michigan State the soldiers ran an obstacle course every Sat morning. They crossed the Red Cedar hanging from a rope. (On the banks of the Red Cedar lies a college known to all.)

I have several books I am reading. I am stuck on a Wallender book. It is fine when he is in Sweden but then he goes to South Africa. The plot is about a plot to assassinate Nelson Mondela.

Correction: Author of The Naked Brain is Richard Restak.

Groggy this morning from an anti histamine last night. Off to tai chi. Then the monthly bday party at Sunset Gardens. Lunch is potluck or pay.

We do most of our tai chi sitting down but I get tired. Dashed home, put on a fancy tee shirt, and off to the luncheon. Our manager is cutting down on the food she serves. No ice cream with our cup cake.
Then I took the dogs to the dog park. Sun is obscured with clouds; so it was not unpleasant at the park. 91 degrees just now. They lay down after half an hour. So we came home.

I am messing up a dying (meaning coloring --- how is it spelled) project. Cant get to sleep. A front must be coming in. I am stiff. At least no pain this time.

Wow. A ten foot alligator was found not far from here, just a few miles. I was close to that spot yesterday driving around trying to find Farmer's Mkt. I drive past there on my way to Arlington. corner of Trinity and Bell Spur.

Watched Washington Week in Review. I find myself discouraged about the whole government. At least so far we are staying out of the mess in Iran. I am signing off for now. Will watch Bill Moyers. Hopefully my two British cold case programs will be on.

Lady Chica's Tale
Another boring day on the home front. Wish I could have seen that alligator Mom read about. We went to the park about noon. I raced a big wolf dog. We got tired and came home.

Blitzen's Tale
I am waiting for the fall to come. It's just too hot to be bothering those big bruisers. And not too many of them come to the park.

BOOK REVIEW
*The Laughing Policeman*
Translated from Swedish. This is an old book and a movie in 1970. Martin Beck, homicide detective in Stockholm, Sweden, police procedural. Wallender is definitely patterned on this. Interesting that Vietnam War protests were going on. Somebody shot up a bus with nine people in it. Beck and company find a motive and the killer.

9 AM I chugalugged a cup of coffee and we were off to the dog park. Temp was 83 degrees. With a stiff breeze blowing the park was pleasant. Dogs ran for half an hour. When they stopped running, I decided to come home.
I thot today was the Sunset Gardens monthly bday party (honoring all June bdays) but it is tomorrow. So I got my hair cut. I mean I had time to get it cut.
Beautician is from Costa Rica. Told her my daughter-in-law was from Costa Rica. Talked with a German war bride about English, learning English and such.

12:25 noon. I am sleepy. I will put a load of laundry in washer and take a nap.

3:30 PM I guess I slept three hours. And I dont have to go outdoors again until dark. It is only 91 degrees this aft.

10 PM And it is 90 degrees. How can that be? I watched MI5 on PBS.

Lady Chica's Tale
Mom dragged us off to the park before we had breakfast. We did some running. Then we spent the rest of the day lying around. Summer is so boooring. Mom wont open the door.

Blitzen's Tale
Mom dragged us off to the park before we had breakfast. Not many big busters there nor small ones either. Mom put me on time out once. Then I tried humping a little girl and she got out from under me.

MINIMALIST BOOK REVIEW:
Richard Rostak, *The Naked Brain*
I got only halfway through this non fiction book. Researchers are exploring "cognitive unconscious" whatever that means. Apparently most of what we do is motivated unconsciously. Then we make up stories about it. This is researched by means of brain scans.

10 AM Off to the dog park. Temp is only 79 degrees. I am not up to a forced march this morning. My muscles are always sore after a massage. I am wound so tight that they are sore when unwound.
I need to run errands today. Bank and heard of a farmer's market, a real farmer's market.

Temp is only 88 degrees. So dog park was pleasant with a breeze The dogs ran and ran. Lady Chica ran with a big old boxer who could run twice as fast but she would never admit it. Finally Blitzen asked to go home.

I drove to the bank and then attempted to locate a Farmer's Market Judy told me about. Her directions were not specific.
Sooner or later I will take a nap.

I didn't take a nap and the day wore away. I am going to send this off now.

Lady Chica's Tale
Had a good run at the park today. Some big old boxer was there. I had fun sitting in the wading pool.

Blitzen's Tale
We had fun at the park today. We chased some bikes back and forth. I guess we scare them off bc they run off.

WEB Griffin, *Death and Honor*
Honor bound series. This series is about OSS in Argentina. In 1943 the Germans were setting up money to escape to Argentina when the war was over. the high command knew the war was lost. Cletus Frade, a Marine pilot, is the son of an Argentine rancher. He is recruited by OSS to set up an airline in Argentina. All the spies know who is a spy. Weirdo.
Griffin has the same character in every book, just with a different name. His protagonists are not given to introspection.

Griffin's Wars are so different from Foyle's War, a series on PBS. Foyle's war is set in 1945. in Britain. Men are coming home in bad shape, with no jobs.

My birthday is June 22
My neighbors gave a neighborhood party for two of us.

Baptist Center. Big Excitement. A man got agitated when he was denied groceries -- by me. One can get groceries every thirty days. man insisted he came in the first of May. Computer showed May 26. When he became agitated I called Don, security guard over. After a while he called Judy, the director. Judy came back with the form he filled out personally. He insisted that was not his hand writing. "Are you calling me a liar?"
Judy answered, "I'm sorry you feel that way."
Eventually Don took charge and ushered the man out the door.
The next thing I knew, Don had the man down in the flower bed and was standing over him.
He had tried to hit Don (the security guard) and Don took him down. I have read about this but never seen it.

One customer said, "That is one strong little s of a b." FWPD were called. Informant says man is still agitated. He faces Class c Misdemeanor for assaulting peace officer.

I came home and we made our Forced March. I took a brief nap before going for my massage. It feels so good. A friend of my massage therapist had lightning strike his house and it burned to the ground. Happily, his dogs are safe. I have met his dogs; Leah babysits them and they are blue heelers.
Temp is only 95 degrees. It never cools off.

I took another nap. The evening drifts away. I have another WEB Griffin novel to read.

I had a strange dream. One of my readers would call it a lucid dream bc I was trying to read something when I woke. I tried to write down my dream but I could not describe what it was like. I have an hypothesis. I am dreaming old memories. In my dream I was three or four years old, and I cannot recreate how things looked to me then.
In the dream I was making a report of some kind. There were boxes of white stones.

9:31 AM Dogs made a big fuss when maintenance man picked up the trash. we have trash pickup. Will take forced march and then Wendy's.

Well, we did our forced march. I printed off a coupon for Wendy's and got a jr burger free. Judy and I chatted for an hour and a half.
Went over to Kroger's and who should I see? (Judy).

Came home and took a long nap. This evening my neighbors collectively gave me a birthday party. We had ice cream and cake on the sidewalk. It is our equivalent of a patio.

Lady Chica's Tale

Flag Day. At 8:30 AM Blitzen barked and barked until Lady Chica and I gave up and got up. I was hungry and needed caffeine, too. So it is 9:55 and we are about to embark on our long walk. Our Long March. March of 1000 miles begins with one step. Official temp is 81 degrees.
A light breeze mitigated the heat.

Martha came over and cleaned my kitchen. She cleaned the counter --- moved everything --- mopped the floor. I had moved furniture so that she could clean.

Lady Chica's Tale
The most fun I've had all day is catching a fly. I swallowed him.

Blitzen's Tale
The most fun I've had is chasing a fly. Mom got mad bc I jumped on her. Then she sat and watched that horrible noise box all night.

Watched two successve episodes of Foley's War. KERA. three hours in total. I turned the volume down and Blitzen stopped barking.

BOOK REVIEW
W.E.B. Griffin, *Under Fire*
Griffin writes historical novels about our recent wars. This is about the Marine Corps and the first months of the Korean police action. Fleming Pickering has been in all the Corps books so far. His son is a flyer lost in Korea as the book ends. Killer McCoy and Zimmerman have been in the series since the beginning. They were stationed in China as WWII broke out.

4 AM So far no storm. We had a tornado watch last night and two counties west of us had tornado warnings.
I watched British cold case, "Old Tricks" and "Waking the Dead". Finally I am beginning to be able to follow the action and know what is going on.
I am up for a pit stop. My sister emailed when the Red Wings were ahead in the final game for the Cup but I looked up Sports and Pitsburg took the Cup. Detroit belongs to the Red Wings.

10 AM That was a good sleep. I had a jumbled dream about giving out shoes at the Baptist Center. I was trying to sort them by size.

We went for our long walk, ten minutes out and ten minutes back. Official temp is 83 degrees, real feel 93 degrees. Outdoor sign read 95 degrees. That is in the sun.

5:13 PM Official temp is now 95 degrees. Real feel is 104. I have been making incremental changes in furniture arrangement.
6:10 PM Unbelievable what I have been able to do. I have moved furniture one inch at a time. Martha is coming tomorrow and she can spend her time cleaning. I need help mopping the kitchen floor.

Now that I have done the heavy lifting, I have been relaxing this evening. Now if I can find Lady Chica we can take a shower.

Lady Chica's Tale
Boooring day. Outdoors it is hot, hot, hot. Mom has been moving furniture around. She has been running that blasted vacuum cleaner, too.

Blitzen's Tale
Not much to say. Hot day. Lolling around. I got trapped in the bedroom. Mom blocked the door with the book case she was moving.

June 12, 2009

I have been reading a book on Special Ops. So it is not strange that I have a dream that I am a member of the Unit. Then the leader is killed. I decided to pretend that I was him, that I had had a sex operation. I woke up. Went to sleep and ended the dream by going out with a group of my unit.

Other people have dogs who beg. I have dogs who bark commands. Blitzen barks at me to hurry up and eat my breakfast so that he can lick the dish. (He especially likes scrambled eggs.) Blitzen does not like me to watch television. He wants me to read. Lady Chica barked that it was time to go to bed.

Our tai chi teacher told us about cartoon in today's paper. Women's self defense class. One older woman is saying, "I'm not here for self defense. I'm here to learn how to jump the tourists and supplement my income."

Lady Chica's Tale
Mom said she was going off to tai chi. Wonder what that means.

The day is miserable. But we have four months to go. Official temp is 95 degrees. One reader suggested i let Blitzen out and worrying about him will take my mind off other things. I am not sure he would go out this aft. I took one nap. Will lie down before dog park.

Decided to dash over to the park before the storm. We only stayed about half an hour. A long pause existed between the lightning flash and the thunder. Watching Bill Moyer. His first guest was Robert Reich.

Blitzen's Tale
We finally got over to the dog park.

BOOK REVIEW
W.E.B. Griffin, *Black Ops*
President Agency series. This somehow has no plot. It seems to be back story and prequel to a new series. Published in 2008. With a new prez I guess Griffin has to change stories.

Thunder, lightning and heavy rain off and on all night into the now. 9:30 AM and stormy. My shoulder aches off and on. Just as I think it stops it starts again.

This has been a strange day. My shoulder has started up again. It gets very painful and then stops. I just put liniment on it but that does not help. Excedrin nor Alleve helps. My neighbrs inform me that last night while I was in Arlington a tornado hovered over our area but did not touch down. They were in church. Everybody went out in the corridor and prayed.

I am making progress by increments. Took another nap. Two naps today.

LadyChica's Tale
We just lay around all day. it rained. we took a walk.

Blitzen's Tale
We just lay around all day. We took a walk but not when it was raining.

Woke up from a dream that I had dental work done and did not have money in my checking account to pay for it. No problem interpreting that dream. I went to sleep concerned about that. I think I have another tooth that needs to be pulled. The tooth is fine. I just lose bone holding it.

Took our 30 minute walk. Lay down briefly to rest. Spending the rest of the day on chores.

I did take a nap. Off to PPQS. While I was visiting, a thunder storm came through and left. Heavy rain. Lady Chica came home absolutely dry whereas Blitzen came home soaking wet.

The storm came and went, and my shoulder has stopped hurting.

Lady Chica's Tale
Big ran storm. We all stayed in a shed. I did not wet a hair on my head.

Blitzen's Tail
I went racing around in the rain. It was fun. I guess old Chica just likes hot water.

Looked up cappucino. The word means "hood" and was the name of a group of friars who wore a brown hood.

Baptist Center 10 AM One hour and we have serviced 8 families for food bank. Busy this morning. We serviced 14 families altogether.

Came home and took a nap. Of course. Got up and fussed around doing household chores. Other dogs beg. Blitzen demands. He demanded to go to the park. I guess the dogs were resting from yesterday. Lady Chica's friend, Buddy, was there but LC only did a token run. Blitzen was trying to hump a chihuahua.
I think a front is coming in. My joints ache. Going to take a hot shower.

BOOK REVIEW
Michael Connelly, *Black Ice*
Black Ice is the Mexican version of Ice, a mix of some illegal drugs. Mexican heroin has tar in it. Police procedural. Cop in drug unit commits suicide. Bosch decides it is murder and is off.
I mean, Bosch starts off to find the killer. Surprise ending altho I began to guess.

June 8, 2009

9 AM Woke from a dream in which Lady Chica and I were wandering from store to store trying to buy a phone. Old phones had become obsolete and stores were out of the new phone. Many had a sign reading "No Phones". I was carrying LC. That is not possible. she weighs 27 pounds.
At first I had a passenger in my car, a girl I knew in sixth grade (and not since). She opened door and let LC out. twice. Then she was no longer in my car. As I was waking I decided to put a pet carrier in the car.

Meeting Judy at Wendy's. First a dog walk of 25 minutes. We went further, too.

I am amazed that so many bodies from Air France have been found

Chatted with Judy for an hour. Had a frosty-cino. What does cappa mean? and cino? Then I made a run to Petsmart for flea medicine. 1:42 pm and temp is 90 degrees.

Took a nap. Got up and messed around. Shifting furniture. Took another nap Judy emailed she was going to park at 6:30. I woke at 6:30 and we went to park. Dogs raced. A woman on the big side of the fence said that her dog just loved Chica. he is a black and brown dog who loves to run.

Lady Chica's Tale
Well, Mom finally took us to the park. My friend was there and we raced and raced and raced. I began to slow down.

Blitzen's Tale
Mom went somewhere this morning and came back with this stuff she put on us. It stinks. I rolled and rolled trying to get rid of it but it still stinks. We did get to the park today. The big busters were ready to run tonight. It was sort of cool, the air I mean.

BOOK REVIEW
Michael Connelly, *Black Echo*
This is the first Harry Bosch novel, reissued. I have read it long ago and I have often thot of the plot line altho I dont remember the details. It is sort of like reading the back story. Bosch is a homicide cop in LA. He is sent out to look at a body which he identifies as a tunnel rat he knew in Nam. Black echo is the feeling that the tunnel rats got in the tunnels in Nam. And the police procedural goes on from there.

I make my first entry as a way of orienting myself to the day. I have to recognize what day and month and year it is. and who is president. (The first question one is asked is who is pres). It is Sunday. I am to spend the aft with Martha. Dogs get a walk only.

I walk the dogs along the sidewalk past the next door apartment bldg. Lots of dogs there; so my dogs do their business.

I took a nap and just woke when Martha arrived. Jeff was busy smoking evrything: chicken wings, brisket and turkey. I brot home a lot of turkey. Yummy. Delish.
I took another nap while the others were watching a movie. Then we had to watch the end of the NBA game which went into overtime. Josh drove me home. We picked up Michelle and she drove us home.

Lady Chica's Tale
Mom was gone all day. When she came home I smelled Rocky. So I know where she's been all day. Blitzen and I slept.

Blitzen's Tale
Yeah, we slept all day.

BOOK REVIEW
Robert Crais, *Chasing Darkness*
Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. The usual plot line. Elvis is trying to prove somebody innocent of murder. Three years ago Elvis furnished evidence proving Lionel Byrd was innocent. Now new evidence at the scene of his suicide seems to show that Byrd killed seven women. Elvis does not believe it and is on the case.

Anniversary of D Day.
All the news is full of memories. I will add mine. I remember D Day. I was a coed at Michigan State College. ON campus were 3000 soldiers and 3000 coeds. Early in the spring I had stood at the window of my chem lab and watched the soldiers marching off to DDay. They marched down Farm Lane to the railroad station.
Soldiers had been in ASTP training as engineers. I had shared the drafting room with many on
Sat when we were finishing our drawings. Also pre pre flight guys. I had been dating one of them and he had gone off to flight school. I was dating an infantry man and he had gone off to storm Okinawa.
We all knew the guys were going to invade Europe. And they were the raw material who would storm the beach. the disposables All the guys expected to die. Writing this is the first time I have realized how much stress we were all under. Everybody knew the casualities would be high wherever the troops landed.
On D Day all classes were canceled and we went to church to pray.

Midnight. I may never get to bed. I have a volume with three Harry Bosch novels, the first three which are the back story.

10 AM Up and at em. I got to bed at 2. So I have had my quota of sleep. No dog park today. They are going to get walks. They just lie around the dog park on the tables. I am going to sew like mad. Chapters of my book for reward.

When we left the outside sign at the church read 87 degrees. As we were on our return journey Blitzen squirmed out of his harness and took off across the street and across the field. I was concerned that he would get hit by a car. But... he beat Chica and me back to the compound. he whizzed past as we entered the gate. he ran around and then let me ctch him by pretending to be so engrossed in something he didn't see me coming. it is good that he got some exercise.

Came home, pinned some, I am pinning the next strip on blocks. Two more finished, 43 to go. One thing that takes time is I have to scrounge around to find the next strip.
Took a nap. I wish NPR had some decent programs on Sat.

Took another nap. And so it goes.

Lady Chica's Tale
Mom said we are not going to the park today cuz all we do is lie around. I dont care really.

Blitzen's Tale
Well, I got a run in. I think I am getting older. I dont feel so much like running. I got out of that ol harness and took off.

BOOK REVIEW
Michael Connelly, *Brass Vercict*
Brass verdict is police slang for when a bad guy gets killed. Harry Bosch series with Michael Haller as defense lawyer. Lawyer is murdered and Haller inherits his case load. This book started slow and then I couldn't put it down.

June 5, 2009

I guess Blitz got tired of getting up and down all night. He slept in his den under the bed. The sun is shining and I m off to tai chi and Food Bank.

Good stuff in the food bank today. Four students in tai chi this morning. We dont do it very rigourously.

Came home and took a nap. Long nap. Woke up and vacuumed living room. What the hay!!!
At five we made a library run and then off to dog park. I kept laughing and laughing at the dogs. Did not get much reading done.
Lady Chica is so aware of everything I do. This has to do with a herding dog. They have to anticipate where the sheep or cattle are going next and get ahead of the herd.

8 PM and no Bill Moyers. Pledge drive and special musical program.

Lady Chica's Tale
Not much doing in the dog park. I lay on the table most of the time. I like to be outdoors. When the weather is cool Mom leaves the front door open and I smell under the screen door.

Blitzen's Tale
Mom put me on Timeout twice for humping little pug dogs. Finally we were all playing and she left me alone. A mini Chinese hairless was humping everybody. He tried humping me.

BOOK REVIEW
Henning Mankell, *Before the Frost*
Written in Swedish, translated into English. New series featuring Linda Wallander, daughter of Kurt. Linda is joining the police. Police procedural. Somebody is burning wild swans, a calf, and pets in a pet store. Cathedrals are blown up.

June 4, 2009

9 AM and the lawn mower cometh. need my caffeine. Off to walk dogs locally. My morning exercise.

10:24 AM. Walking was difficult with lawn mowers all over the place. Blitzen gets so mad he turns and chews on the leash. For breakfast I had some little grain in dots. It may be couscous. Meeting Ruth at 2. Otherwise sewing.

Ruth and I had fun chatting. We email daily. So we didn't have much to catch up on.
4:21 PM Think I will take a nap.

Never did get to sleep. Went to dog park at seven when it is cool. Lady Chica is so clever. She does not like anybody to beat her in racing. So if the other dog is getting ahead of her, she veers off and goes plop in the pool. Sometimes she turns and goes in the other direction. She reminds me of Josh when he was three or four and used to get mad when Belle, the border collie, beat him in a race.

Lady Chica's Tale
Mom has begun taking us for a walk early in the morning. Blitzen is such a pest. When we hear or see a lawn mower he wants to take off. He turns around and bites the leash. What a pest!!!

Blitzen's Tale
I have been limping around all day. I think I twisted my ankle in that cage Mom makes us ride in. She is so controlling. Wont let me chase those pesky lawn mowers.

BOOK REVIEW
Richard North Patterson, *Balance of Power*
I only read half of this book before returning it to library. The plot deals with passing gun legislation. I lost track of who is who. Did the good guy's friend betray him or was that the bad guy? These guys are all senators. The first lady's mother and sis were gunned down by ex.
I am neutral on the gun issue. I dont think new legislation will help much and I think members of NRA are paranoid.

As recession deepens I see more random shootings. I was interested to find that as soon as Obama was elected, abortion clinics increased security.

drank a cup of coffee and set forth with dogs --- for my benefit --- ten minutes out and fifteen minutes getting back. I am pouring sweat.
Now to drive over to Martha's to pick up leftovers.

I have food forever. Four pork chops, some other kind of meat, dishes of rice. I ate some chicken vegie soup for lunch. Delish. Jeff is a super cook.
Took a nap. I have been wringing wet with sweat all day.

Lady Chica's Tale
We had a thunder storm in the night. I snuggled up next to Mom. She was muttering about counting something about lightning and then thunder. I dont know what she was talking about but it felt snuggy. And old blitzen just slept through it all. He didn't even wake up.

Blitzen's Tale
Wednesday night and over to old Pup's.

PPQS. Lea always gives me dinner. Then she sewed on a quilt and I did hand work on yokes for my shirts. I really dont know what happens in the back yard. John gives them each a treat. Blitzen goes immediately and buries his.

I am so sleepy. Forgot to take Claritin and had to take benedryl. I am allergic to Amelia.

BOOK REVIEW
Michael Connelly, *Angels Flight*
Hieronymous Bosch police procedural. Angels Flight is a tram car in downtown LA. It figures in the story bc it is the site of a fatal shooting. The vic is a black lawyer who is famous for suing the LAPD. Everybody thinks the shooter is a cop. Well, read the book.

Baptist Center. Not yet. 8:20 AM We started out for morning walk and the rain came down. Even the dogs wanted to come inside. I hate to drive in the rain.

I was caught in traffic and ten minutes late. two accidents had occurred between my house and the church. We were busy all morning, 18 families served with groceries. I realized it was the first week of the month.

Came home and as usual took a nap. Afraid of coming rain, we went to dog park at 5:30 PM. It was pleasant there, breeze blowing, sun obscured. Yes, Martha, I walked the perimeter. of the small dog park.

Lady Chica's Tale
As usual, the first thing I did was plunge into the pool. Yeah howdy. We did a little running. Mostly I sat on the table. Mom walked around but I just stayed on the table.

Blitzen's Tale
Lots of petting today. Two little kids petted and petted. We did get some busters running. It is nice to get outdoors.

Came home and took a short power nap. Staff at Center was sleepy this morning. the weather seems to be heavy.

BOOK REVIEW
Robert Crais, *L.A. Requiem*
Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. Does one call this a police procedural? It's like Hercule Poirot, a PI and the police. A serial killer kills an old girl friend of Joe Pike. They hunt down the killer. In the process both Elvis and Joe get shot badly. We are not sure Joe Pike survives.

June 1, 2009

Disappointed not to see Wallander last night. A pledge drive was on and people were voting for British comedy fall programs.
Meeting Judy at Wendy's for our traditional chat. Dogs still asleep, not pestering for food nor walk. Saturday tired them out.

Reader asked who instructed me to walk. Why, Martha, of course. Flex your foot!!!

Judy says she is suffering "post partum depression". She was so excited when Obama won and now life just goes on. On the other hand, I am excited. I think we are at a turning point as revolutionary as the Protestant Reformation. I cant see ahead but I can see the boiling.

Came home and could not get on Juno. Took a long nap. I was having a heavy dream where fishtracks was trying to sell me something and I wasn't buying.
Going to dog park at seven. Too hot.

Dog Park was cool. Clouds were coming in. Blitzen didn't run at all and Lady Chica only did a little. Are they getting old? Is it too hot? They got the big dogs running.
Came home. I have been sitting around reading. The Warning Siren sounded but there is nothing on tv or on the internet about a storm.

Lady Chica's Tale
My tummy has been sensitive today. I didn't eat anything until supper and then only part. Mom is such a worry wart. It is a wonder she did not have me at Dr. Treybig's before noon when I missed breakfast.

Blitzen's tale
I got extra food today. I sneaked in and finished off Chica's breakfast and supper. I got those big busters going at the park. Didn't feel it necessary to run with them. A whole pack was running.

Mostly she tracks embezzled money going offshore. She is hired by two different clients to track money. It turns out to be money gotten by smuggling women into the US. Warning to people who dont like violence.
